Excerpt:
Bella and Tracy were the best of friends. Not only were they best friends, they were cousins. It was like having a built in friend in the family. Both were only children and unfortunately, they were both going through hard times. Back in happier times, Tracy was always at Bella’s house, showing her the latest dance move she learned in ballet class. Both girls would be telling secrets and giggling about something that happened in school.
But now, both girls did not feel like laughing as they struggled through the trials of life. The sad thing is, it had to do with the girls’ parents. Bella’s dad lost his job right after Christmas and so the family was scrimping and saving every penny they could. He was determined that he would find something eventually but at the moment they were scraping by. Tracy’s mom and dad had just separated and at the moment, she felt pawned off on Bella and her Aunt Marcie, whom she loved dearly but at the same time, she missed her mom, who was always working.
Her dad moved out of state so that meant she hardly ever got to see him. She tried to not let it bother her but she was really sad. For the last two months, all her parents did was fight so she knew it was the best thing for her parents to part ways but she did not understand why it had to hurt so much. At least, she had her ballet class. Her mom had enrolled her when she was four and so she was quite excellent at being en pointe.
Basically, that meant she could dance on her toes. For four years, she had been in Madame Colette’s dance class. Tracy’s mom suggested Bella take lessons, too, but there was one problem with that. Bella was incredibly shy. It was hard for her to make friends and perform in front of others. Tracy’s mom paid for her niece. She figured ballet class would give both girls an escape from the harshness of reality. Bella’s shyness was a big problem. Bella had horrible, horrible stage fright.
But she wanted to perform more than anything and they were about to have a big recital. Shewanted to be a ballerina ever since her mom had taken her to see The Nutcracker at Christmas Time. The ballerina was so beautiful and she loved every single bit of it. So when Aunt Liz offered her to join Ballet class and gave her a pamphlet to read about it, she jumped at the chance to be with her cousin. Bella figured it couldn’t be that bad since she knew someone at least. And what could be more fun than dance class with your best friend?

Meet The Author
Tonya Christine Hewitt
I have wanted to be a writer ever since I was 8 years old. I grew up a Navy brat, moving around A LOT! I lived on the navy base in Norfolk, Va, Groton, Ct, Mobile, Al and probably numerous other states as well, so it was hard making friends, being as shy as I was. I did have a close friend in Norfolk named Jennifer. We became friends because just like my characters in Different Colored Dreams we had the same lunch box of Rainbow Brite. We were huge fans of the cartoon. But then, once, again I had to move.
But we moved to Cleveland, TN and that is where my grandparents and cousins lived. I started going to Hopewell Elementary and I got to stay long enough where I had a favorite teacher, Mrs. Armour. She read us books from Judy Blume and E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. She introduced me to my love of books. My dad finally retired and we got to stay here!
But it was not till my teacher took us to the library for reading time, we got to listen to the librarian read us a book. This was no ordinary book. It was a 12 year old girl who wrote her dad a story for being in the army. I felt a connection to her. This girl was four years older than me but I felt I could write a book, even at my young age. I was hooked. I read and wrote all I could. I was determined to accomplish my dream. I promised my mom I would dedicate my first book to her and that I did. A Mystical Journey, the first book I ever self-published, came out in 2009 and six years later, I reformatted it and then, I felt like I had to write all I could!
God gave me my talent and inspires me each and every day and blesses me with so much. My mom will always be my number one fan but sadly, she passed away in 2013. Many books I have written are dedicated to her memory. Lots of my ideas come from wanting to make presents for people and seeing them smile from the story I have written. The words always seemed rather magical to me and I love that writing can take me wherever imagination roams.
I co-write a series with my best friend, Trisha King under the pen name Larissa Moon. We love that you stopped by our site to find out more about us and our writing!
