Excerpt:
But as Kevin embraced the thought of his dad in heaven, Aimee scoffed at the idea. Because if there really was a God, her husband wouldn’t have left her with a child to raise alone. He would still be alive. It had been two years since he passed away, but Kevin never let go of Jesus but it seemed it had harden his mother’s heart.
Kevin cracked open his piggy bank with one of his dad’s old hammers. He closed his eyes, bracing for impact, as he hit the pig making it break into many pieces. He picked the money up careful to avoid the broken fragments. Only $4.35. He counted the money twice and sure enough that is all there was.
He wanted to get his mom something special for Christmas. But that wouldn’t buy much. He then had an idea! What was the most special thing of all? The reason Christmas was all about! Jesus. He knew his mommy was mad at God but if she could get saved on Christmas Day, then maybe she wouldn’t cry anymore. And who was a pretty good gift giver, after all? Santa Claus, of course!
He tore a page from an old notebook and found a crayon and he started to write.
Dear Santa, I know I already asked for a bike for Christmas. But if you could, I want my mommy to get saved and know Jesus. You see, my daddy is up in heaven and so she thinks God had something to do with his death but I know God is still watching out for us. And Daddy is just now our guardian angel. So you don t have to get me’ the bike I ve been wanting, I just want mommy to ’ get saved and know Jesus. Thank you. I will leave you some milk and cookies.
Your friend, Kevin
Oh, no, he looked at the calendar. It was Dec 23rd. Was it too late to get the letter to Santa?
He sealed it in an envelope and hollered at his mom. She assured him it would get to Santa in time. “Santa’s magic after all.”
“Oh, goodness, what happened to your piggy bank?” she asked him. He had forgotten to clean up the mess.
“I was trying to get enough money for Christmas shopping,” Kevin said.
“We will get some stuff tomorrow, I promise.” His mom tucked him into bed after he changed into pajamas and she read him, T’was the night before Christmas.
After she said good night to Kevin, she tucked the letter inside the kitchen drawer and went to bed.
Kevin said a prayer as he laid in bed. “Dear Jesus, Please let my letter get to Santa in time. Mama has to know about you and get saved. Also, could you tell my dad I said hello and give him a hug from me to him. Thank you for dying for me and saving me. Amen.” He soon fell asleep, excited about Christmas.
The next day went by in a blur. From Christmas shopping to having a special Christmas Eve dinner, it was late when Aimee remembered the letter her son had given her to give to Santa. Making sure he was asleep, she tiptoed into the kitchen retrieving it from the drawer.
What she read, she thought she would burst into laughter but instead she burst into tears. Her husband always told her about Jesus and she realized she wasn’t angry at God, she just missed her husband. She asked forgiveness 11for her sins and for Jesus come into her heart and the hollowness ache didn’t seem so hurtful. It just seemed as if her husband was on vacation in heaven.
The next morning, Kevin anxiously ran downstairs and he saw his mom kneeling down and praying right beside the Christmas tree. Santa had still gotten him the bike he wanted and he even got a new baseball glove. But the best present was seeing his mom finally saved.
And after he hugged her, he sat on her lap, and they took turns reading the Nativity scene from his dad’s Bible. Making them feel a little bit closer to their guardian angel in heaven and wishing Jesus a Merry Christmas and a Happy Birthday.

Meet The Author
Tonya Christine Hewitt
I have wanted to be a writer ever since I was 8 years old. I grew up a Navy brat, moving around A LOT! I lived on the navy base in Norfolk, Va, Groton, Ct, Mobile, Al and probably numerous other states as well, so it was hard making friends, being as shy as I was. I did have a close friend in Norfolk named Jennifer. We became friends because just like my characters in Different Colored Dreams we had the same lunch box of Rainbow Brite. We were huge fans of the cartoon. But then, once, again I had to move.
But we moved to Cleveland, TN and that is where my grandparents and cousins lived. I started going to Hopewell Elementary and I got to stay long enough where I had a favorite teacher, Mrs. Armour. She read us books from Judy Blume and E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. She introduced me to my love of books. My dad finally retired and we got to stay here!
But it was not till my teacher took us to the library for reading time, we got to listen to the librarian read us a book. This was no ordinary book. It was a 12 year old girl who wrote her dad a story for being in the army. I felt a connection to her. This girl was four years older than me but I felt I could write a book, even at my young age. I was hooked. I read and wrote all I could. I was determined to accomplish my dream. I promised my mom I would dedicate my first book to her and that I did. A Mystical Journey, the first book I ever self-published, came out in 2009 and six years later, I reformatted it and then, I felt like I had to write all I could!
God gave me my talent and inspires me each and every day and blesses me with so much. My mom will always be my number one fan but sadly, she passed away in 2013. Many books I have written are dedicated to her memory. Lots of my ideas come from wanting to make presents for people and seeing them smile from the story I have written. The words always seemed rather magical to me and I love that writing can take me wherever imagination roams.
I co-write a series with my best friend, Trisha King under the pen name Larissa Moon. We love that you stopped by our site to find out more about us and our writing!
