Wedding Plans
“Guess what? Guess what? Guess what?” Erica Daniels tugged on China’s shirt, excitedly.
“What? What? What?” China Scott asked her, a slight smile crossing her lips. She couldn’t help but grin as Erica was very anxious to tell her news.
“My dad is taking pictures of your mom and dad’s wedding!” Erica exclaimed. “And they are going to be in my daddy’s magazine!”
“Oh, that is really cool!” China knew that already but didn’t want to dampen Erica’s enthusiasm. Her mom had told her when she had first found out and China was floored she was actually going to be featured in an actual magazine article. Of course, the story would be about her parents mostly but still, it was rather exciting.
China turned her attention back towards Erica. She had promised to watch the girl while Erica’s parents talked to China’s parents. Erica and China were at her mother’s restaurant, Mystical Dragon. While they discussed the wedding plans, Moon Song had closed the restaurant. She figured it was too much going on with the wedding and China’s graduation.
China and Erica had gotten extremely close ever since last year when they had met at the Mystical Dragon. Especially, since China had found Erica after she went missing. The ten-year old had discovered onto a secret world that let her travel through painting after painting. Erica loved how she could confide in China about her adventures since her parents never did believe that it had happened. China wasn’t so sure that she would have believed it, if she hadn’t saw it with her own two eyes.
But thanks to the little girl’s adventure, China’s family had grown. Trapped in the world, Erica had discovered, was China’s grandmother, Lorelai. She had always thought her grandmother had been dead instead of missing. She was also fortunate to have her great-great grandparents rescued from the art world as well.
In the art world, their ages had been frozen even as years went by. So when China first saw her grandmother, she had been a lovely twenty-five year old. In the real world though, age progressed rapidly. She now looked like China’s actual grandmother. China adored having her in her life.
Lorelai, Chung, and Laura were in Moon Song’s study as China’s parents discussed the wedding plans. Moon Song had just referred to them as visiting relatives to the Daniels. She felt it was too hard to explain as to how she suddenly had her dead mother back as well as her dead grandparents.
Sammy and Mindy had met Lorelai the day Erica had gone missing. They described her as twenty-five and Moon Song had felt like they had seen a ghost. She always had felt abandoned, thinking her mother had left her, but now, knowing the truth, she felt more at ease.
She was also secretly glad her mother was no longer young so she wouldn’t have to explain to them further. Moon Song was rather a secretive person but she also felt if she told anyone that story they would write her off as nuts.
Erica’s father had done a story on China’s mother’s restaurant. Sammy Daniels worked as a photo journalist and was fascinated at the beautiful construction. The magazine was really awed at the pictures he had taken and immediately wanted Sammy to carry out the restaurant assignment. China’s mother was so impressed at how Sammy done the story, she called and asked if Sammy would consider doing pictures of her wedding. The magazine editors were so impressed about her romantic story; they wanted Sammy to do a story on Moon and Ryan, concluding with their happily-ever-after wedding.
So Sammy, Mindy, and Erica traveled back to the city where those exciting adventures had begun. Every summer, Erica and Mindy were able to go with Sammy as he traveled as a photo journalist. Mindy worked as a first-grade teacher, so she was able to travel as well.
They had left earlier than usual because they were all invited to China’s graduation. And Sammy needed to start on the wedding story right away. So it was a week to China’s graduation and the Scott’s wedding. They had decided they had wanted to get married right away.
Moon and Ryan had been divorced for a while but never stopped loving one another. Ryan had been a detective and been shot in the line of duty and miraculously survived. When the doctor declared he was officially better, they decided to protect their daughter by parting paths.
So even though, they still loved one another, they divorced while Ryan posed as a salesman for years wanting to protect his ‘little China doll’, as he called her.
Ryan objected to the magazine doing a story at first due to the reason they divorced in the first place was for his daughter’s protection. But when he was assured that the article would not mention the case he had been working on when he had been shot, he figured it was okay.
China smiled at her parent’s romantic story. Recently, her father had got a job on the police force here in town. He just couldn’t stay away from the love of his life, Moon and his beloved daughter.
“Earth to China,” Erica stated, bringing China out of her train of thoughts.
“Oh, I am sorry, I was just thinking about the wedding.” China told her.
“I also got some exciting news to tell you, now.” China continued. “My parents told me I could tell you.”
“Well, don’t keep me in suspense! What? What? What?” Erica’s voice was almost a shout as China seemed to pause.
“They are going to ask you to be their flower girl.”
“Oh, my gosh. I’ve never been in a wedding. And a flower girl! How exciting!” Erica exclaimed.
“Yeah, I am going to be their maid of honor. And you are their flower girl. She’s not really going to have any bridesmaids. If Mitzi was here, she, of course, would be one but she is in Italy. I can’t believe I get to go there soon. Oh my gosh! That is so exciting!” She loved how the word ‘soon’ sounded; it was finally sinking in she was about to go to Italy and she could not wait!
China’s parents promised her she could go to Italy as a graduation present. She was staying almost a year with her friends, Bruce and Mitzi. Mitzi and Bruce used to work for her mother at her restaurant but Mitzi found out she was having a baby last year and they decided to move to Italy to be closer to Mitzi’s family. She missed Mitzi and Bruce terribly but was happy she was able to see them soon and get to see the new baby.
“Wow, everything exciting is happening to you. Your parents are getting married again; you’re graduating; going to Italy! I am so jealous!” Erica pouted but smiled.
“Says the girl whose excitement just seemed to follow her last year….” China laughed.
“Okay, I get your point. I did have an exciting adventure last year. But lately, every day has been pretty much the same. It is pretty exciting that I get to be a flower girl, though. I can’t wait to tell my parents.” She said. Right as she said that, she saw her parents come up the walkway.
Erica went out to greet them. “Mom! Dad! Guess what?” China smiled. The kid was always trying to get people to guess.
“What, Sweetie?” Mindy asked, sweetly. Her sparkling eyes twinkled as she lovingly looked at her daughter. She was so happy to see her. She was kind of wary of this place since her child had went missing there but figured it was just nerves that shook her.
“I get to be the Scotts’ flower girl.” She exclaimed.
China piped. “My parents said as long as it was okay with you.” She looked at the Daniels to see what they would say.
“Sure,” Sammy said, glancing at Mindy to make certain. She nodded her approval. “I would love to get to show my daughter off in my magazine finally.” He laughed.
China smiled. The Daniels loved their only child dearly. She was glad Mindy approved since it seemed that she would be the only thing standing in the way since Mindy wasn’t thrilled about being back here. Even though, she smiled, you could tell she was uneasy.
The wind blew the paper lantern hanging outside the restaurant fiercely almost as if the restaurant was telling them goodbye as they walked towards their car.
Mindy thought, “We will gladly leave with pleasure.” She sighed with relief as they made it to the car and they were on their way back to the hotel.

Meet The Author
Tonya Christine Hewitt
I have wanted to be a writer ever since I was 8 years old. I grew up a Navy brat, moving around A LOT! I lived on the navy base in Norfolk, Va, Groton, Ct, Mobile, Al and probably numerous other states as well, so it was hard making friends, being as shy as I was. I did have a close friend in Norfolk named Jennifer. We became friends because just like my characters in Different Colored Dreams we had the same lunch box of Rainbow Brite. We were huge fans of the cartoon. But then, once, again I had to move.
But we moved to Cleveland, TN and that is where my grandparents and cousins lived. I started going to Hopewell Elementary and I got to stay long enough where I had a favorite teacher, Mrs. Armour. She read us books from Judy Blume and E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. She introduced me to my love of books. My dad finally retired and we got to stay here!
But it was not till my teacher took us to the library for reading time, we got to listen to the librarian read us a book. This was no ordinary book. It was a 12 year old girl who wrote her dad a story for being in the army. I felt a connection to her. This girl was four years older than me but I felt I could write a book, even at my young age. I was hooked. I read and wrote all I could. I was determined to accomplish my dream. I promised my mom I would dedicate my first book to her and that I did. A Mystical Journey, the first book I ever self-published, came out in 2009 and six years later, I reformatted it and then, I felt like I had to write all I could!
God gave me my talent and inspires me each and every day and blesses me with so much. My mom will always be my number one fan but sadly, she passed away in 2013. Many books I have written are dedicated to her memory. Lots of my ideas come from wanting to make presents for people and seeing them smile from the story I have written. The words always seemed rather magical to me and I love that writing can take me wherever imagination roams.
I co-write a series with my best friend, Trisha King under the pen name Larissa Moon. We love that you stopped by our site to find out more about us and our writing!
